this & that

Arrived at Jacksonville beach about 1 hr. ago.  Overcast, but nice.  A GF and I are doing a 5K on Sunday morning here.  We are talking about the 7AM yoga, if we can get our act together.  It is "Armed Forces" weekend.  Fly-over, parachute people, surf lessons, etc.  Hopefully the wether will co-operate.  Last year it was held in June, was terribly hot, and rained cats and dogs.  She did the run, I didn't as my brother had just died, and I hadn't trained any.    I will probably just walk the 5K, maybe jog a bit here and there.
I am looking forward to June 6-9 for a quilt retreat with some GFs at a local retreat center.  I have lots to catch up on, and it will be wonderful not to have to cook and clean, (plan meals) for a few days.

Three Chemicals

Interestingly enough, when Dr. Zoltan Rona (Toronto medical and environmental physician) sent my blood for testing to a lab in Virginia (early 1990's) three chemicals showed up:  Pentacholorphenal, Malaic Anhydride and Toluene.  If you check below you can see how each of these chemicals are used in the finishing of cloth and their side effects.  When I was in Sarasota some years ago, I bought a book at The Ringling School of Art on the toxic materials artist's work with and nowhere was there any mention of cloth or textiles.  Yet, you put a steam iron onto cloth and you can smell the chemical odour/resins coming off the cloth.  Worth thinking about, not that it will change the medium I use.  We do pay a price for working in the medium we do ( cloth/textiles) especially when we're not aware or informed about the materials (our medium) we are working with.

Hope everyone had a good Mother's Day!

For those of you who celebrated Mother's Day, I hope it was a beautiful one.  My 2 children with 4 legs and fur got me a T shirt and matching hat--and wrote out a note for happy Mother's Day.  DH took me and another GF out to dinner after church.  I wanted to go to Bahama Breeze, as they have wonderful key lime pie.  (Not on the current eating plan) I figured 1/2 a slice of pie would be OK.  My Mom didn't want to leave her bedroom, and I didn't force the issue, as I know it is her "comfort zone".  DD called me about 7PM.  We had a nice chat for 45 min.  or so.  Things aren't as rosy in N.D. as they are all so tired of the weather.  She has her 4th or 5th sinus infection.  We all think it is due to the water/mildew, etc  in the basement.  My SIL will be getting his diploma for his Master's this coming Sat. in Minneapolis, so that will give them all something to look forward to.  They are spending some time at the Mall of America also.
The golf game at Ponta Vedra was won by Tiger Woods.  So all the golfers are headed home today, and I guess the volunteers are sleeping!
Have a good Monday.

Just a short comment

I was going through the posts for the last week or so and saw the one from TerTer.  Welcome back!  We used to keep in touch many years ago and kind of fell off the communication bandwagon.

And Marge...you can get non-latex gloves at a pharmacy if the latex bothers you.  I know that when I go to the dentist or the doctor's office, they always ask if I am sensitive to latex (I'm not) and they will use a non-latex product if it is requested, so you know they are out there.
