checking in

It has been a while since I've posted...

Today at quilt guild, we had a wonderful program presentation from Suzi Parron on the Barn Quilts Trail http://americanquilttrail.blogspot.com/ I bought an autographed copy of her book, and think it will be a delightful read. There are pictures of a lot of the barn quilts we saw in today's presentation, the stories that go with them, and no patterns to feel guilty about not making. ;o) She told us there is a really nice quilt trail in Ontario, Canada, too! Rosey P., do you know anything about that one?

A few technology changes around our house in the past month, also:

Brave new world #1) Big changes in our house a couple of weeks ago --- we finally have another option for internet/cable TV provider in our area. Competition! Yay! We took that opportunity to ditch the cableTV company we've been stuck with for decades and their lousy customer service. There is a bit of a learning curve but so far, so good. DH is in heaven, because this new provider has five or six different Masters-dedicated TV channels covering The Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia, this week. LOL The man is in heaven.

Brave new world #2) I also bought a Kindle last month. I first ordered the Kindle Touch, had it a week and decided that was not a good match for me. I returned it and got their current basic entry level Kindle 4, and really really like it. I resisted getting a Kindle for years, as I always felt quite married to real books. I finally decided I no longer want to lug around the weight and give up the suitcase space when we go on trips. Oh my . . . I am quite hooked on this Kindle thing! It is so light, takes up so little space, and it is soooo easy (ack!) to buy books and ... !voila! ... they are downloaded in a minute to my Kindle.

Brave new world #3) Our microwave oven died. Well, it is as old as the house (25 - 26 y/o) but it is part of a double wall-oven built-in unit, with the conventional oven below. So . . . we'll have to buy an entire new unit. Argh. The cooktop in the kitchen island is the same age, and perhaps we should replace it as well. I bought a countertop microwave at Sears for the meantine, and ohmygosh! that thing is a lot more powerful than the old one in the wall. DH and I are having to learn new times and power levels for heating things up. We love that it has a built-in spinner (don't know what you call it) which is so much easier than the one we have to wind up every week for our old microwave.

Finally, our local TV station was talking about this commercial (copy & paste the Youtube.com link) on Monday morning. Apparently it was filmed and aired on Sunday, April 1, as an April Fool's joke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfDFgE_9gVo It is really LOL cute!!! I have watched it two or three times, and catch something new each time I watch.

Must go .... I'm sending hugs to everyone!
