QUILTS OF VALOR

I have recently become a member of a Quilts of Valor group.  In Franklin, where my guild meets, the local Viet Nam vets in particular and routinely praising the effort every chance they get.  Those vets are so moved by the effort and we are moved by the comfort they seem to bring.  I recently presented one to an 88 year old neighbor, currently suffering from Alzheimer's who had served in the South Pacific in WWII.  He suddenly perked up and understand everything I told him about the QOV effort to honor all vets.  It is a nation wide effort and many quilts are going to rehab facilities and hospitals.

Time to get back to the tax hassle.

Jane-hope the taxes come out OK and you get a BIG refund check. I have been making QOV for 3 or 4 years now, and love the organization. Esp. like to get those E mails about the quilts arriving at the Afganazine or German hospitals.
Keep on quilting!

I am currently working on (personally, not QOV) a quilt for a young man who was in Airborne basic with my grandson. He was severely injured in Afghanistan by a rocket propelled grenade exploding within 1-2 feet of him. He was on life support to Ramstein, then to Walter Reed, but finally was awake and alert. He had a brain concussion and trauma, lots of broken bones, 7 surgeries in two weeks including a rod put in his lower right leg, exploratory on his trigger finger, and so on. He's doing wonderfully now and has just been sent to Ft. Gordon, GA for rehabilitation. His Mom is picking out pictures and I will put them on fabric and make a small quilt. By the way (and WARNING about the next few words LOL) the kids (soldiers) call it Asscrackistan. The old Army Walter Reed hospital has been closed and the Bethesda Naval Hospital has been remodeled and added to and is now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
