Sadness in N.Z.
A second explosion at the mine yesterday, ended any hope of rescue and also makes recovery of bodies difficult. It has been an incredibly frustrating week for all of those involved. The families wanting rescuers to go down into the mine, and the experts saying that the risk of another explosion was too great to do so. Mining is a risky business but I'm sure none of the men or their families expected it to end this way. Small rural communities, the whole world over, tend to pull together at times like this . There is a lot of support being offered. This time last week, those men went off to work, like on any other day. I guess we all need to make everyday count..

Marion, I noticed the update on the news a bit ago and was greatly saddened by this terrible result. The family and friends of the miners continue to be in my thoughts. As well as the small community near the mine. Yes, it can be a dangerous line of work.

It was terrible to hear the latest news about the miners after there being so much hope that they could be rescued. Thinking of you all in NZ at the moment, dear Marion, Love, Fran
It is a very sad day indeed. I was so sorry to hear of the news and those families affected.

Thank you ladies. I didn't want to
put a dampener on the BB but, as I had mentioned the miners last week, when this first happened, I thought I should follow through with yesterdays news. In all probability the miners died in the first explosion. Small comfort for the families but surely, better than waiting, day after day, for the rescuers to arrive ? Among the men were two Australians, two from Scotland and one man from Sth Africa, so the pain of loss is widespread.
Marion.
