Change of name

Looks like I am still listed as Lavinia/TN. Have to figure out how to change that, among other things... like how to post photos, etc. Lavinia/AZ

Lavinia, that is quite a move for you from Tennessee to Arizona. They are not exactly sister-states. Hope you're enjoying your new location and home.

Thanks Doris and Rosie. The move has been good for DH, he has received more help from the V.A. here in one year than he did in TN in ten years. He's legally blind from macular degeneration; right eye gone, a little sight in left. They sent him to the V.A. Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center in Tucson for a couple weeks to learn to live with it. He'll be going back in September for computer training for a few weeks depending on how much he already knows about computers compared to their curriculum. He's looking forward to that. At the moment he stays absorbed in listening to talking books. The states furnish the machine and the Library of Congress the tapes. However, you can download the books to a flash drive and listen to them on the computer. They have also given him all kinds of aids too long to list here. He loves Arizona, wild horses would not drag him away. I, on the other hand, am not a "Desert Southwest" person, I miss the Smoky Mountains and Cherokee National Forest, not to mention friends and fellow church members. My son bought a place in one of the safer areas and we rent from him. It's at www.westbrookvillage.org. About 150 clubs and all the amenities other than exercise equipment. Sheriff Joe has what are called "Sheriff's Posses" in several communities; they check on people, check on vacant houses, watch for speeding cars. They are all volunteers but have to take law enforcement courses; when they get done they do have arrest powers and so on. Other than that we are learning to live with coyotes and a few other things (dust storms among them -- this is "monsoon season" till Sept. 30th). Well I'll quit boring you all, hope everyone is well and not having problems with volcanoes, earthquakes, fires or hurricanes.

Lavinia, we all seem to make adjustments in retirement. I thought that I would close up my B&B and travel with my husband, a retired airline pilot. Seems he doesn't want to see the inside of an airport again. Had enough of that. So, if I travel, I go with a friend or mostly alone, which is fine with me; he stays home. He loves his gliding and today, I watched him go up and down, up and down, towing gliders up in the air. He's happy. So, I continue to run my B&B and wonder how long I'll have the energy to do so. I meet many interesting people who come here to stay and that is pretty much my social life, which is fine with me, too. Dressing up in stockings and fine clothes isn't me any more. I don't know where you'd find the mountains you miss, Lavinia but can you holiday back in the mtns. of Tennessee instead?

Hi Rosey. Glad to hear from you! I guess the closest forest would be the redwoods in Northern California;I got to see them when in the tractor/trailer. North of us in N. Arizona there are a number of mountains and I forgot what kind of trees, but being back in a forest was nice. I drove us up to Monument Valley so Sal could see where all the John Wayne movies were made..not a lot of trees but the place is at 5500 feet of elevation. Holiday is probably out for the east coast; it's 1810 miles one way. We saved up and got passports and trying to save to go to Northern Ireland (and see the rest of it while we're at it). It's the only thing on my bucket list (smile). I am amazed at the energy you must have to keep the B&B going, and I completely agree on the fine clothes thing; I haven't dressed up since I retired, and in the Smokies people accepted you for who you are and not your clothes nor what you had. Thanks for writing!
