Joleen, how do you make your Pfeffernusse? We have a family recipe for what we call "Peppernuts". We don't put pepper in them but flavor with anise oil and cardamon as well as a few other spices. Then roll into narrow 'logs', slice then bake. I've never seen our cookie made outside the family and have wondered if anyone else makes them as we do.
You sure made a LOT! of cookies! LOL

We call them Peppernuts as well - sounds the same except we don't use cardamon. Anise, molasses, cinnamon, cloves, roll into a pencil size log (or a little bigger, slice and bake. They are a German cookie and my mom always made them. Joleen
Pretty close but not exactly the same. We use a tad of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice plus the tablespoon of cardamon and anise oil. No molasses or cloves. Ours are via a German family line too.
Thanks for sharing. It's interesting to compare recipes. :-)
Happy Christmas holiday!
Mary
NOT a tablespoon of anise, tho. Just re-read that and realised it might have been misunderstood. :-)
