Here are the Maritime Alps in northern Italy. The white stuff you see is not snow. It is the famous Italian Marble that is quarried and shipped all over the world.
The second picture was taken a few miles down the highway. There are many of these marble companies in the area, with the marble waiting to be shipped from the port in nearby La Spezia.
