Do tell Rosey !

Did you finish the outfit and did the end product match the image...? I can't imagine ever thinking that trying to replicate such an outfit would be a good idea ! Your creative energy must have been well stimulated by revisiting the Arctic Quilt. Photos please ! We need to see this !

I remember seeing (and hearing) throat singing on a Documentary programme once. It was fascinating.

DH . and I celebrated 48years of married life today ! How can that be ? I still think of myself as being "around fifty " !

Marion, I have no idea what or who drops these (sometimes questionable) sparks of imagination in my head at times. I've never had anything not turn out reasonably well and to some degree. For me. For people looking at this piece they may wonder...why did she bother, where did this come from and what's it all about. It will depend on how well it is received visually by others. The early Inuit art appeals to me very much, particularly the work of Kenojoak and the late Aoudla Pudlat, both of whom are/were greatly naturally talented artists. That he died skipping ice flows near his home on Baker Lake, which I learned about in trying to find him again in order to gain permission to use his bird in the middle of the quilt, Arctic Reflections, impacted on me with great sadness for the loss of such a talented man. Part of using his work is my tribute to that talent. And he was very generous in allowing me and Canadian Living Magazine permission to replicate his work initially. Any pattern sold from that quilt will give a commission to his widow now. Kathi, from Idaho, is making this quilt at present. I digress. The outfit will be photographed today. Don't ask me why I made it, I'm not sure I even know other than I was driven to do it. I sometimes wonder myself why I do what I do, creatively.

A second post: Did you ever wonder at times how you'd ever get to 48 years of marriage, Marion and do you ever wonder now how quickly the years have sped by? Do you remember your wedding day and all that happened back then as though it happened just yesterday or last week. It's anniversaries, I think, that as we grow older, become markers of the life we've led, not expecting ever to reach the age we are now. I can hardly believe I'm in my seventies. My dad died at 72. I realize that was young compared to how I look at age now. But then, it was old. And , it is old. Forty-eight years and you've both survived all those years. A lot of living goes into forty-eight years.

Thank you for all of that background information Rosey. You have mentioned Aoudla Pudlat before and your appreciation of his talent. I remember you posting a photo of the quilt featuring the bird . He would have been flattered and thrilled to have seen how you had used it in your pattern. What a fine gesture to give his widow any commission from patterns sold.

Re the 48yrs... Yes, it covers a lot of living but it's been a good journey and we are grateful for our time together.
