The perfect Solution for Telemarketers

Just had a call (Private Name came up on the call display...sneaky)...and I hear....may I please speak to the homeowner.  I say that I am the housekeeper (which is true) and he says:  may I speak to the homeowner?  I tell him that they are too drunk to come to the phone.  Silence.  Then click.  One time I had a young man, poor fellow, who was sympathetic to my plight...how did I manage to work for people like that, he asked.  Are they drunk all the time?  Yes, I said, but it's not too bad a job, they pay me well.  Oh, said the young man.  And we hung up.

The 'too drunk to come to the phone' is a line himself uses.  I can't lay claim to thinking it up myself it but it sure works well when telemarketers call...it sort of ends things right there...Maybe they know I'm putting them on, what do you think....(smile)...

Rosey - I love it!!!

Those type calls have gotten so bad around here that we look at the Caller I.D. first, before we answer. If it is not our area code(s), we let it go to voice mail because it's always a telemarketer or "survey".
Election years are the worst, with their recorded messages. Mostly, we don't answer the phone. If it's that important, the caller will leave a voice message.

Doris, I know that telemarketers are only doing their job. My son did it to earn money at university. But these calls are intrusive and I confess that hearing their reactions as they try to figure out how to get to the 'homeowner' or to Mr. or Mrs. P....... and I'm telling them that Mr. or Mrs. So&So are too drunk to come to the phone...I've had telemarketers ask me if there is ever a time they are not drunk and could they call then and I say, no, they're drunk all the time....it's funny to hear them try to figure out how to get to the homeowners and they can't. Some small pleasures against the intrusiveness of telemarketers...try it sometime, Doris, and see what kind of reaction you get. It usually stops them right in their tracks.

Rosey, I love it, will try it next time they tell me my computer is sending malicious messages, always at a meal time. From overseas, can hear the empty sound before they call. That sounds so silly how can one hear an empty sound. The most annoying thing is they call me by my name which is never on line

Must tell you about my porn calls. My granddaughter went to Japan for a school term. I knew roughly where she was and as she had told me her photo was on the website as an overseas student I decided to have a look. I put in High School
and the area and all I got back was do I want to see them in panties or without etc etc,not had computer too long and couldn't rid of the sites. I panicked and was so worried that my family would think I was into porn. When I finally did tell them they all laughed so much and have not let me forget it./

We are on the "do not call" list, but that doesn't seem to stop all of them. Yesterday right at 5PM while I was waiting for a phone call from family Dr. one called. I kept saying, "I can't hear you" Hello? about 5 times & then hung up. I do like your solution.
