Hi from So. Fla.

It's a beautiful day here. The storm that his Doris and Jane went through Fla. on Tues. There were some tornado warnings, lots of black skys, and about 1 hr. of heavy rain. I finally heard the wind chimes on my Mom's front porch chiming! I was not prepared for all the heavy traffic in so. fla. I thought most of the snow birds had flown home, but guess not. I did go to the local quilt store (Buttonwood's) between Lake worth and Greenacres yesterday. I brought the old quilt top with me to show my Mom, and bought some pink check-calico type for the back. Sometime I'll repair it and get it put together. This was the suggestion of the quilt assoc. people. That way it will be somewhat preserved for the future generations. DH wants me to drive back home today, so I'll leave here about 10:30ish. Have to go visit the local chocolate shop to get Easter eggs (chocolate) for DH. This was our tradition when we lived here. I'm also going to a local plant nursery to see the cost of some large teracotta pots. I think they may be cheaper here than at home. Sara in fla.

"Huh" from here too....

Jane, I thought the same about my last post. It looked so strange with no paragraphs. My spell check is working though (phew!) The "storm" photo caught the moment didn't it ? Sorry to hear that so many people are without power. Good to know that you have a gas heater Jane and no damage on your property.. Nature certainly has caused some havoc around the world recently. DH is suffering with "man flu"........ I just have a cold (!?!) Either way, we're not getting much sleep here . Nice day here though, so I'll get out and make the most of it. Keep safe. Marion.

HUH?

I tried three times to edit the foregoing post inserting paragraph spacing where it belongs and when I post the corrected version the corrections are gone and it all comes out as originally published. I give up. Is Eric pressed for space or something? Oh well, I'm enough of a grammar snob (can't spell worth a damn though) that I want folks to know that I know the difference. I turned off the generator last night and slept well despite not having the CPAP but who knows? No one around her complained about my snoring. We'll see how sleepy I get during the day. The house was in mid 50sF when I got up. It was just at freezing outdoors. I turned on the generator and the gas log so it's quite comfortable now. That gas log is one of the smarter purchases of my life. Jane PS Let us see if there is a paragraph break in the published post which is in my draft. I just inserted some gibberish and spell check isn't working either. Now I'm REALLY in trouble.

STORM

Doris, it hit big time late last night. The lightening was intimidating. I woke up when the power went out as the CPAP cut off and it seemed that lightening struck somewhere nearby. I ordered a battery to operate the CPAP when the power is out but don't have it yet. I turned off the generator after breakfast and then back on again at supper time. Since I have no idea when the power will be restored I've got to ration out the propane I have or go bankrupt. Neither dog seemed to be disturbed but Rocky finally spent a night in the crate I have for him for the first time since I brought him home in July. There is a fairly large limb down in my yard and I'm relieved that there were no trees down in my driveway. Duke power's automated telephone message earlier today said that there are something 190,000 in North and South Carolina without power and currently there is no estimate of when it will be restored in my area. Of course they restore the power to the more densely populated areas first. I think; I hope that the medical hassles are winding down and maybe I'll have time for other things including quilting. I'm just resigned to having a certain amount of pain for the rest of my days and between arthritis, fibro and the injuries of three years ago that shouldn't come as a surprise. I know that losing weight and exercising are the best remedies for all of the above. Cold, mostly sunny and VERY windy today. Hope things calm down tomorrow. I have a whole day with nowhere I have to be!!! A good hike with the beasts sounds great to me. I meet with my tax guy Thursday so in addition to the hike I have a bunch of digging to do in my records to be ready for him. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm still here, alive and kicking. storms

I hope Laura in AL survived the storms today. There was a lot of damage in middle Tennessee. Here is a picture of the building my DH works in, after the storm came through. At least this time, the HVAC unit is still on the roof. Thirteen years ago after the tornado of April '98, it had landed on DH's car in the parking lot below.

Jane in NC - if you're going to be getting these storms, you need to batten down the hatches.

Quilts for Christchurch

We have sent our extra quilts and are making more . We had a sewing day on sat. and sewed like crazy. So much more seems to happen when you are in a group. Lots of chat but plenty of sewing. I also loved the extra hour but someone forgot to tell the kitts. They are becoming so vocal, I do wish I could home these two, they are now 6 months and full of life and jollity. The homes seem to have stopped coming , all the foster mums have been left with kitts, apparently I am lucky I only have two. Love the photos, it really makes a difference to the blog. Love the scenery and the pets , Kathi's mountains are fantastic. I am baking my little heart out, a 3 year old's birthday tomorrow and certain goodies have been requested, including shortbread, that one surprised me. I will be a Nana again in Sept. Cara is very excited just wait and we will see . It is 4pm and getting cool must go and shut some windows before the house cools too much. Hugs to all , Bee in NZ

Springtime in the Rockies

We just got home from spending a few days at our cabin in Idaho's Sawtooth mountains. I thought I'd share some photos I took on Thursday morning. The mountains were out in all their glory.
Four cow elk spent about three days browsing on the hill behind the house. They made sure they kept an eye on us, but weren't terribly interested in what we were doing as long as they got to eat. All four of them looked like they were in pretty good shape even after the heavy snow we got this winter.

The weather up there is warming and the snow is rapidly melting off. That's not saying that we won't have many, many more nights of freezing weather, but springtime is on its way to central Idaho.

An extra hour in bed...

We changed our clocks to winter time last night. I have enjoyed the extra hour in bed this morning ! Not the usual rush to get out of the door in time for church ! Love the photos Rosey. The splash of blue brightened up the page and the one of the cat is beautiful. Sara, a kind thought re. the quilt for Christchurch. We are still busy rehousing and feeding people and I don't know who is dealing with donated quilts. I think Bee and her group are making some and the lady who organised heart blocks for the miners families, intends to send any surplus quilts to Christchurch. We've had a week of beautiful weather. Quiet, sunny days with very little wind. I've had people staying so it made it easier and generally more enjoyable. Nowhere to take anybody at the moment though... The city is still cordoned off, half of the parks are "out of bounds " and the coastline has problems with raw sewage.... We could have driven to the mountains but there have been problems with falling rocks and slips on the road.. Only two of our many cinemas are open and they are both in busy shopping malls, not exactly where I want to be just now ! I'm not complaining, just telling it as it is. Just received an email from UK telling me that six of the girls I trained with, in the early 60's, are having a get together later this month ! I'd love to be at that ! There were only thirty of us in our year. There wasn't much we didn't know about each other after three years together ! I've kept in touch with a couple of my special friends but I'm looking forward to hearing how the rest of them have fared in the last 50yrs !! We were a lively, adventurous group, so I'm sure there will be some interesting stories. (we were training to be Occupational Therapists) Hope you all have a good week. Marion.
