ooooops...there goes grandpa !!

Nice to be able to post again. I tried in the New Year without success. Not sure whether or not the fault was with our machine, my technique or the BB Page !! Anyway. All the best for 2009. It looks as if it's going to be a challenging year for many of us.
Rosey ...I love your 'turn of phrase' !! Tertiary stage of the syphilitic shuffle !! The mind boggles !! Be careful out there. It sounds quite dangerous !
We enjoyed our Christmas with DD#2 and family. It was good to be with them all. We had a very relaxed Christmas day. The children all enjoyed their gifts and we had a surprisingly quiet day , the two eldest reading their new books and the youngest engrossed in his new 'Indiana Jones' lego !!! The weather was warm enough to swim (as you can see !) and Grandpa allowed himself to be pushed in, which delighted them all !!
We only stayed for four nights but it was worth the effort (and expense !) of getting there. One of the highlights was being able to "see" DD#1 and family via "skype" in Hong Kong. The cousins hadn't seen each other for five years so it was especially fun for them.
Now back to face a New Year and all that it may bring... We've had some very hot days and, just to break the monotony of that, we had a severe hail storm on Saturday which shredded the garden. A disaster for those with crops ready to harvest . Hot again today, and windy . I may stay inside and cut some fabric out for a scrap quilt . I would like to make a dent in my stash this year !!
Doris, so sorry to hear that you have lost a long time pet. It leaves such a gap..
No "Curves" for me today but maybe I'll be inspired by Rosey, and put in 30 minutes on the treadmill...

January 6th 2009

I can't believe another year has gone by and I can't believe I'm as old as I am. So in order to forget the latter, I plan to start a snow shoe track around our woods at the back of the property and go around and around like the Duracel (sp?) bunny until I fall over. It's icy, snowy and the only way to walk around this house outside is by performing the tertiary stage of the syphilitic shuffle. Don't lift your feet or you'll land on you a**.

On a sadder note and I don't think Doris will mind, Alex, her sixteen year old shih tzu has died. I had shih tzus for twenty some odd years and know how cute they can be. I didn't meet Alex in person but I was well acquainted with him over the internet. I'm sorry, Doris...it's the aftermath that's hard.

I'm off to Curves and drive myself silly thinking I'm half this age.

New Book to Read

On the old board, members would share authors they liked to read. I appreciated this, and want to share a book I just finished and really liked. "The Lover's Knot" by Clare O'Donohue. It's a mystery/romance that is centered around quilting. I just happened upon it as a new book at my local library.

West Mi reporting

We have been home all day due to ice over night.
Wondering if there will be school tomorrow as
it didn't warm up enough to melt the ice on the
roads. I did some cleaning that didn't get done yesterday.
I spent the rest of the day in the sewing room cutting strips
for a couple of quilts. I plan to spend most of Jan. cutting
stuff for new quilts and charity quilts. I plan to knit and
crochet up all of my yarn in 2009. I don't have too much so
that shouldn't be to much trouble.
Don and I joined a fitness center last Friday. We worked out
for an hour. We are going to try to go at least 5 days a week.
Friday night I tried on at least 5 pairs of jeans trying to find a
pair I could snap! This weight has to go. Easier said than done.
I just happen to love to eat. Jean, glad your arm is getting better
and you are able to get some quilting done. I ask Don today is we
could swap out our bedroom and the sewing room. He said yes. Our
bedroom is bigger. It is going to be a major job. The weather man just
said we only had 3% of available sunshine from Nov. 28 to Dec. 29! We've
had over 100 inches of snow all ready and it's only the 4th of Jan. On the up
side it is only 75 days until Spring! I will leave you with that note.
Hugs, Mayme

I'm quilting!!

At long last, eight and a half weeks after my shoulder surgery, I am finally quilting again!! I picked up one of my UFOs last night and hand-quilted a block. Five more blocks and the quilt will be done. It's a "simply hankies" quilt, the blocks being fabric that looks like a hankie. Ah, it's nice to be quilting again...

Goofy post

Wow, I see my last post did not come through. Now to remember what I said! Oh well. Jane, I know I was commiserating with you. I think you're having the worst end of it, as you seem to still have some hurdles ahead. Be strong, and look to the end result! That's what's getting me through this miserable physical therapy.

My shoulder is definitely coming along, but after the dramatic improvement the week after I got my sling off, now the progress is much slower. I can lift that arm just slightly higher than shoulder height, but it is still soooo stiff. Each week my range of motion that PT can move it increases some, but I will be glad to be able to move it on its own power. I still can't move it behind me, like to scratch my back, but the side to side motion is getting a little better. Ugh. I am getting very tired of this, and so am not doing my exercises at home as often as I should. Bad Jean, bad! I must carry on with them if I want to get my arm's mobility back.

On the up side, last night we assembled the recumbent exercise bike I got DH and I for Christmas. I tried it out, and it's SO much more comfortable than the old-style bike with the tiny seat that hurt everyone's butt that we used to have. You're actually comfortable, leaning back. I know I will use this, and I hope DH will too. I've got to get back on the treadmill too, but that doesn't sound as appealing right now. Sigh.

Well, here's wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2009. I certainly hope 2009 is a better year than 2008 for us. I need to take off all the weight I put back on last year---grrrr! I want 10 pounds gone!! There's my New Year's resolution. Anyone else?

I forgot

I read the Yahoo site all the time too and see some poster I remember.
I am unable to post on the site so could some one pass on the Happy New Year message to all.
Thanks
Grace

Happy New Year

Just wanted to come by and wish every one a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
I know that some are recuperating, so I hope it continues that way.
Spend a very quiet New Years eve. We just can not seem to want to go out among a whole lot of people any more. After planning and organizing New Years eve parties for over 150 to 200 people for more than 30 years I sooner just stay home with a few friends. Has not happened yet, but there is hope for the future.
Trying to do a quilt as you go quilt for our Cancer group. I am using up all the left over pieces of batting and flannel. It is going to take me a while.
Had two big boxes filled with left over pieces of batting. Now there is only one and a half box. There seems to be an end in sight.
Maybe I better get at it again
Happy New Year all
Grace

Happy New Year

It seems that I have the honor of being the first poster for 2009.
Guess everyone who has electric power is busy doing other things.
It's been a good year so far! Football, lots of it on the new TV. High Def is amazing when one is watching sports. You can see the blades of grass on the field, the sweat on the players.
I'm itching to get back to quilting, and can't wait to have the eye surgery on the 15th so I can see colors and drive in the dark again. I went in and sat at my sewing machine today, just sitting there looking out the window at the sunshine made me happy.
DH is feeling better and we went for a kayak trip (a short one) about noon.
We found our way to a small creek about 20 miles from here and then had to find the public boat ramp. The weather was sunny/overcast and about 60. The creek was a nice paddle, but too many jet skis and power boats out to really enjoy it. Otherewise it was pretty, and we would go back again. I think lots of people got new boats / jet ski stuff for Christmas.
We have been too warm here (I know that people in snow don't want to hear that) but the plants don't know whether to bloom or not. It's fun to get out in, but dry, and we need the heat business. Whine, whine, sorry.

DH & I still don't know what illness he has. This Wed. we will visit the ENT who hopefully will schedule to get a lymph node removed from his neck to send it to the lab and cut it up. He has had every blood test they can think of, which reveals nothing. It's good he is feeling better, but madning that we still don't know what "it" is. I'm thankful for good doctors, good hospital care, and good insurance!
OK, this is a book, happy quilting, or whatever everyone is doing this weekend. Stay safe and happy and healthy in 2009.
